Ms. Sloan isn’t just about teaching Math. Ms. Sloan was quite the athlete back in the day. All through high school, Ms. Sloan played tennis, which continued into college. Ms. Sloan became a teacher because she always had enjoyed and excelled at math and science. When asked what her favorite thing about teaching at La Vega was, she was quick to say the people she works with. The reason Ms. Sloan came to teach at La Vega was that her spouse was having to drive three hours to and from work several times a week, so the smartest thing to do was move closer to cut traveling costs.

Ms. Sloan loves to read, but she must read sitting up or else she will fall asleep. Her family of origin includes one younger brother and his four children, and she is blessed to still have both of her parents living. However, her family of choice is much larger. Ms. Sloan is such an outdoor type of person, so she is happiest when she is outside. “I enjoy gardening and yard work; I make fused glass art and jewelry,” Ms. Sloan explains. Growing up, Ms. Sloan wanted to be a truck driver but things don’t always turn out as you plan. She has lived all over Texas, such as Mabank, Fort Worth, Abilene, Waco, and more. However, even though she has lived in so many different places, she hasn’t been able to go to her dream vacation spot in Australia. Ms. Sloan is a well-rounded, proud American, whom’s patriotism sometimes shows when she cries during the national anthem.
