The Sony Xperia 1 IV seems like it’ll be released this year – maybe as early as next month – and we’ve got some fresh rumours to report on the camera arrangement and other specifications that might be in the works for this flagship phone.
These reports came from Chinese social media site Weibo’s Zackbuks, who is generally accurate. The first is the processor: the Xperia 1 IV, like many other high-end Android phones due in 2022, is expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU.
The RAM possibilities are said to be 12GB and 16GB, which is quite a lot, while the storage options are said to be 256GB and 512GB. Furthermore, the same source claims that the phone’s primary and telephoto lenses will be upgraded this time around.
The battery capacity is also stated here: 5,000mAh with a 45W charging rate. There’s also mention of increased screen brightness and maybe a redesign, but this seems less definite based on the information available online.
“Sony’s greatest phone in a long time,” we said of the Xperia 1 III. Sony is likely to preserve the same megapixel ratings while updating the lens technology, since it had a triple-lens 12MP+12MP+12MP back camera. A Snapdragon 888 processor, up to 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage were among the internal specifications.
The Xperia 1 III had a 4,500mAh battery and 30W charging, so if this leak is accurate, we’re looking at significant improvements. We’ll have to wait and see whether this results in a significant increase in the phone’s battery life.
Sony phones have had another successful year
As we previously said, we were pleased by what the Sony Xperia 1 III had to offer – but strong evaluations haven’t always translated into high sales for Sony’s smartphone business, and the Sony Xperia 1 IV will face this problem.
In fact, we already know that Sony is good at cameras because it sells its sensors to a lot of phone companies, and of course, its TV business gives it a lot of experience with screens. That’s two essential aspects of a smartphone where you can be certain that a Sony device will shine.
The Sony Xperia line has always struggled to gain traction due to expensive costs, and these phones aren’t as well-known as those created by Google, Samsung, or Apple – even if they deserve to draw more admirers because to their mix of technology and software.
Everything about the Xperia 1 IV remains to be seen. If it follows the same timeline as its predecessor, it would debut in April, however Sony is known for unveiling devices before MWC, thus it may debut in February at MWC 2022.
