Moon Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and more highly awaited Disney Plus series may have release dates soon. That is, if a recent revelation and a statement by the Television Critics Association (TCA) are to be believed.
With its winter press tour for 2022 in full stride, the TCA announced (on Thursday, January 13) that Friday, January 14 will be fully dedicated to Disney’s streaming platform.
However, although the TCA announcement makes no mention of any new Marvel Phase 4 or Star Wars projects on Disney’s streaming site, a recent article from What’s On Disney Plus hints that we may finally discover when some of 2022’s most widely awaited episodes may appear.
That is a wrap for the TCA Virtual Winter Press Tour today. We will be back tomorrow with Disney+. Thanks for following along. #TCA22January 13, 2022
According to What’s On Disney Plus, The Book of Boba Fett, which is about halfway through its serial run, will be included in some manner. According to the source, we’ll also discover more about the new animated programme The Proud Family: Prouder and Louder, as well as National Geographic’s Earth Day lineup.
However, news from last year’s winter press trip hint that we might hear something formal regarding the premiere of MCU programmes like Moon Knight, as well as Star Wars TV series like Obi-Wan Kenobi’s solitary adventure, very soon.
According to What’s On Disney Plus, debut dates for many MCU and Star Wars TV programmes, including Loki and The Bad Batch, were revealed during the 2021 winter press conference. At the virtual event, several programmes, like Pixar’s Monsters at Work and Turner & Hooch, earned formal release dates.
Could we see anything similar this time around, after Disney and the TCA revealed the launch dates for Disney Plus’ 2021 slate during last year’s conference? We’re crossing our hopes and toes for some release date news. This year will see a slew of Marvel and Star Wars TV projects, including She-Hulk and Cassian Andor’s prequel series. So we’re hoping that some of these projects will eventually be assigned a release date.
Which MCU and Star Wars series are likely to obtain release dates?
There are five release dates for Disney Plus series — Marvel, Star Wars, or other Disney originals – that we’re particularly interested in learning about.
For Marvel, we know that Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms Marvel will appear this year. Ms. Marvel obtained a summer 2022 debut date in late 2021, while the other two programmes have yet to get preliminary launch dates.
With filming on all three MCU TV shows completed, we’re expecting that one or two (at the very least) will be granted formal release dates during the TCA’s 2022 winter press tour. We don’t anticipate any of them to have teaser trailers accompanying prospective release dates. But we’d take the latter if it meant knowing when the next batch of Marvel Disney Plus programmes will be released.
In terms of Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cassian Andor’s individual adventures are set to begin in 2022. Andor, a prequel series to Star Wars: Rogue One, is set to be released in mid- to late-2022. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan, which takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, was briefly hinted at the November 2021 Disney Plus Day festivities. We’re still waiting to learn when it’ll be available on the streamer.
We do not anticipate that all of the above will be officially released on January 14. However, Disney and the TCA have a track record of making such announcements, so we’re optimistic that a handful of these projects will have their premiere dates confirmed in the near future. The Book of Boba Fett will conclude on February 9, leaving a galaxy-sized Star Wars void on Disney Plus following its conclusion. Unless one of Marvel Studios’ future TV programmes is broadcast shortly, it will be four months before their next project – Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – hits cinemas.
